Fishable campsites
Looking at a little getaway weekend 4th of July
Willing to go 3-4 hours of Melbourne if it’s worth it
Looking for a camp site that fits the following requirements:
-200km from Melbourne to the west, 300km from melb to the east
-free
-LB fishing (pref salt, but will settle for some nice trout fishing in a river/creek too)
-secluded, no major public camp grounds shared with hundreds of others
-fires allowed
-possibly divable reef would be a bonus?
I’ve never camped west of Melbourne before. Does the Otways kind of area fit these requirements?
Feel free to post any camp site you’ve stayed at that’s worth recommending, also if you’d rather keep a somewhat secretive spot on the down low, feel free to PM

Re: Fishable campsites
Apparently there's free campsites at Lorne.
Otherwise I'd suggest the Sawpit Picnicground at Portland although it's a little out of the way for you.
I reckon you might have a hard time finding anywhere secluded.

Re: Fishable campsites
Yeah Portland’s a bit far lol.
Maybe I should re-define secluded. Not too fussed if there’s a few people there, but I don’t want to be camping at what may as well be a caravan park

Re: Fishable campsites
trout fishing in the rivers is closed til September.
cant help too much with the locations, you could try somewhere north along the Goulburn, ovens or murray.
check out the wiki camps app.

Re: Fishable campsites
Seriously Kimtown, go to greencape. Saltwater creek is one of the most incredible places you'll find, Bitangabee goes ok as well. Pulpit is an insane rock fishing spot and you can dive off city rock in good conditions.
Might be an hour further than you want to drive, but entirely worth it.

You'll just need to find a member of the resistance to smuggle you over the border of Occupied Danistan into New South Boomerstan

Re: Fishable campsites
45 years ago, at low tide, we got crays out of rock pools at Johanna.
In those days there was nothing there, just a place name
Can't remember a beach, maybe same area, maybe not
In the general area though
Good luck, I'll have a cray
