High tide smash and grab.
Found myself with a free afternoon this arvo, and with the forecast being very favourable, I headed down to Gunners.
As it approached high tide, I got a few tell tale smacks on the lure, next cast, same again. Following cast, I slowed it right down, and bang, hook up.
Not a big fish, 7-800 grams, but still, good fun. Strangely, no more touches in that area, so moved up the beach.
Met up with a local mate, Oatsy, and we kept plugging away. Bang on high tide, I got slammed by a bigger fish, after several airborne cartwheels, and some nervous moments in the beach wash, I slid a fat 1.6kg Sambo up the sand. We peppered the area with casts, but no further joy. We worked our way back down the beach, with Oatsy picking up one more on the way back down.
Good to land another couple, but on the whole, they're hard work at the minute.

They are ripping fun on lighter gear, but in the surf, you're battling the conditions as much as the fish. That bigger fish did the classic Salmon move, race in with the wave, then go side on and kite in the retreating wash. You have to be on your mettle with them, and gear up to suit.purple5ive wrote: ↑Tue Jul 28, 2020 2:36 pmGreat stuff shorty.

Re: High tide smash and grab.
yes i agree, surf fishing isnt the same as targetting them from a boat in the bay, you need the appropriate gear to winch them out of the surfCarlG wrote: ↑Tue Jul 28, 2020 4:47 pmThey are ripping fun on lighter gear, but in the surf, you're battling the conditions as much as the fish.
