Landbase best rod and reel
Hi everyone!!!
I need some help from you guys. My man's birthday is coming soon and I want to buy a good rod and reel for him. He normally goes landbase fishing, and my budget is around $1000.
TIA for all the fishing experts!!

Lucky man.
Let us know where he likes to fish and what fish he is chasing?
Rods and reels vary so much.
Cheers,
mefish

Re: Landbase best rod and reel
$1000 is a lot. And there's a lot of variety of rods and reels.
Let us know some more info of what kind of landbased fishing he does and pretty sure you'll get a lot of good advice.
Such as, pier fishing or surf fishing, or lake/river, lure or bait.

Re: Landbase best rod and reel
Seems a lot for a dedicated landbased combo. He'd probably prefer a $500 combo and a night at the strippers tbh

Re: Landbase best rod and reel
He normally head to Mornington Peninsula, pier fishing with bait. Last time he caught some snappers.
Well, good to know that I can get a good gear for less hehe.
Thanks guys for your answers!

Re: Landbase best rod and reel
If he's fishing Mornington for snapper, a 12 foot rod with a 10000 sized reel will get the job done. Something like a Penn Prevail II 1202 and a Shimano Saragosa 10000 would end up being around the 600 - 700 mark.
But.
There is a lot of fishing on the peninsula and the different piers all fish differently. There are times when you fish with the lightest possible gear and times when we're using giant over heads that we use game fishing. Before making a big commitment probably best to ask for more information.

Re: Landbase best rod and reel
Which pier? Lol.
Generally speaking, the sizes are :
7ft rod and 2500 reel for small fish within short distance.
9ft rod and 4000 reel for medium to big fish and requires a bit of distance and casting big bait.
12ft rod and 8000 reel to 10000 reel is for serious distance casting big bait looking for big fish.
Then go to tackle shops with your budget/money. There are so many of them to choose from. The tackle shops can help you best.

Re: Landbase best rod and reel
A 1000 bucks is a lot to spend and if you’re uncertain then you could end up with a lot of mismatched gear. I’d suggest you take him shopping to a tackle shop and tell to help himself. He’d be stoked I reckon. I know I would be.

Re: Landbase best rod and reel
You could go slightly over budget and get him a Shimano Stella reel (let him choose his own rod to suit later).....it's the male equivalent of getting a diamond ring.
