Recommendations for boat rods

Post by ChuckDuck » Mon Mar 15, 2021 11:34 pm

Hey Everyone !!!

Just wanting to see if anyone has some recommendations for some boat rods? I've got my normal rods but taking 7 foot 8 rods out in a 4.5metre boat can be a pain in the ass at times so just wanting to know if anyone has any recommendations on shorter rods? Mainly chase gummies and snapper..

TIA

For Port Phillip Bay, favorite boat rods for gummy and snapper are 7ft fiberglass ugly sticks with Shimano 6000 baitrunners (20lb mono).
Western Port/offshore set up, Terez/Saragosa/braid (big tides/big bycatch)

The choices are endless, just go to a tackle store and by a shorter snapper rod, it's hard to recommend one as there are plenty of shorter rods available. it depends where you will be fishing also.

Where do you fish, how do you fish (lure/bait), what's your budget, etc.

Like what Seniorfisho said. There's so many options out there in the market.
Best to go to a tackle shop and have a chat with them while deciding.

Ugly stick is a good value for money rod, almost unbreakable. You can go graphite rods ranging from $100 Shimano Catana up to $500+ like Daiwa Saltiga. Depends on your budget.

Reel wise, depends how big is the snapper, 4000 to 6000 size reel is enough. For gummies, again depends how big you're targetting, 6000 to 8000 size reel I'd say.

Penn spinfisher or Shimano baitrunner to match ugly stick be good. A bit heavy but shouldn't matter much since you're baitfishing.
Or you can go up higher to $200+ reel like Saragosa all the way up to $1000 Stella or Saltiga. Depends on your budget.
