Re: Big changes to Vrfish
The Andrews Labor Government is working with Victoria’s peak recreational fishing body to ensure the interests of recreational fishers are served by a strong, modern and diverse representative body.
Minister for Fishing and Boating Melissa Horne today announced the outcome of the 2020 Review which will bring significant reform to peak recreational fishing body VRFish.
As a result of the Review, VRFish will increase female representation on the Board to 50% and will ensure greater multi-cultural diversity on the Board, including through Indigenous representation.
Other reforms include greater board membership turnover, increased monthly financial reporting and the adherence to set KPIs such as increased advocacy and research.
VRFish has been in operation for close to 25 years and is funded via revenue generated by the sale of recreational fishing licences.
Through the Labor Government’s $35 million investment into fishing across the state, more Victorians are fishing more often. These reforms are about making sure that VRFish continues to represent the growing community of fishers in Victoria.
The Government will continue to work alongside VRFish as they implement these measures to ensure the Victorian fishing experience can remain a sustainable, inclusive and enjoyable place for all recreational fishers.
Quotes attributable to Minister for Fishing and Boating Melissa Horne
“Recreational fishers come from all walks of life, with a range of fishing interests and we’re pleased that VRFish will continue to reflect the community it represents.”
“These reforms are about ensuring Victorians can continue to be represented by a strong fishing body that works to improve the fishing experience here in Victoria and gets more people fishing more often.”
Quote attributable to Chair of VRFish Rob Loats
“We will continue to advocate, evolve and diversify to ensure the broad range of fishers are represented in the future.”

Re: Big changes to Vrfish
Can someone please explain to me how this is going to improve the performance of the board? You would think representation on the board would be chosen by merit and not gender or background. This is ridiculous! And before the PC brigade get all fired up I'm someone of a multi cultural background who runs a business. Let me also say that I would never employ anyone for no other reason than there previous experience and understanding of the role they are are expected to carry out.mazman wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 12:47 pmThe Andrews Labor Government is working with Victoria’s peak recreational fishing body to ensure the interests of recreational fishers are served by a strong, modern and diverse representative body.

Re: Big changes to Vrfish
At least Australia is not yet at levels where they are trying to have diversity equality across the 37 different genders

Re: Big changes to Vrfish
The WOKE brigade infiltrates from within, they use the " we must have diversity" line, once they get their foot in the door they destroy all the good work that's been done.
They don't think like normal people they have a twisted mentality of what the world should look like.
Look at whats happened to Hollywood, it's well documented " go WOKE go broke"
It's been slowly happening to Australia, don't be fooled into thinking it's not here it's well and truly here !

Re: Big changes to Vrfish
This is a great change. For day to day management, the "best" person for the job makes sense. But for a representative board that oversees things, it has to represent the wider community rather than just a select mob.
This is probably continuing the trend from 2016 - so that VRFish actually represents more of the people who fish and their views rather than a very select mob. Besides, "merit" is subjective- these closed shops typically consider "nephew, cousin, friend" as the person with the most "merit". These guys are paid for by my license money - i would rather have a board thats more representative than a bunch of "buddies" living the high life pretending to care about real rec fisher :D

Re: Big changes to Vrfish
The members on the board volunteer their time . There is only about 3 people who are employed by the board out of the budget of $450,000 .The board is elected from the 70 -80 members of Vrfish so no one is living the high life on your license feespotatoeater wrote: ↑Mon May 10, 2021 10:29 amThis is a great change.
