Re: 4 new outfits
If they made them.in toddler sizes then I probably would have used a few models by now.
But Ive only used the earlier 7mh model and only once. So cannot give you any proper feedback sorry.

Kimtown wrote: ↑Tue Jul 13, 2021 1:52 pmThat actually makes a lot of sense. I’ll probably get rid of the crucis combo then, you’re right it seems a little bit of a waste.hanboy wrote: ↑Tue Jul 13, 2021 1:16 pmYes, because you already have the Bone ocean thug for casting. I'd just combine the bait/jig/troll into one outfit with a shorter rod.
Have a think around replacing one of those with a heavy jig/bait outfit. If there are dogtooth tuna around you'll need it. I lost 11kg of jigs in Vanuatu over 4 days once and landed no fish and that was on a Stella 20k outfit with 100lb line.
Also, define heavy jig/bait
My definition of heavy jig/bait is a 20,000 size reel in the stella, PE8-10 line. You can get away without it, but nice to have if some really big fish show up.
Speaking to someone on another forum who’s been on quite a few bigcat trips and they said they take the following:
Seems pretty reasonable setups. The first and second combo and very similar to mine but maybe slightly lighter (he said he fishes light), he has no bait combo unlike me and has the Talica overhead jig/bait setup… would this suffice for dogtooths? I’d personally replace the abu overheads with some 5000-6000 shimano egg beaters. But otherwise looks quite similar.friendly person on another forum wrote:SW 14000 XG Stella with 65lb braid on a Venom Pe 8 popping rod, (beast of a broom stick)
a Saragosa 8000 with 40lb braid on a Venom Pe 2-5 spinstick (wicked all rounder)
a 2 speed Talica 12 on a Samurai 30-60lb jig stick 50lb braid (proper overkill, an 8 or 10 would do)
2 old 6500 C3 Abu overheads with 30 and 20lb on a 6-12kg raider, and a 4-8kg Jewel, truth be told I fish with them the most”

Re: 4 new outfits
I actually use an older model Demon Blood for that purpose. A bit longer at 8 foot, but 3 piece so it's portable in case I need it to be as well. I have a Shimano 10,000 size reel on it with an upgraded 12,000 spool. Landed GTs Doggies Sailfish Coral trout and even a rather large Napoleon Wrasse on the setup.Kimtown wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 7:56 amThat does purspuade me, especailly since the anthem can only throw 60gm max. So that pretty much cancels that out.ducky wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 8:33 pmA mate of mine took a surface barrel on the caranx 80. Rates the Rod very highly for local waters, kingy and bluefin if that helps persuade you.Kimtown wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 8:22 amI’m thinking of subbing out the Bone OceanThug medium casting rod for something a little more affordable.
Other options are:
-Murasame Caranx PE2-5 stick bait 80 ($429)
-Daiwa 20 Demon Blood s702-3/5 ($389.00)
-Shimano Anthem 20ASW692SPMH 30-50lbs ($277.11)
Anyone got any personal reviews of either of these rods?
I was leaning the Demon Blood, purely because it was cheaper and could cast 20gm more (120 total), but seems a little irrelevant for a medium casting rod anyway.
Surely theres a few Daiwa fan boys here who have used the demon series? Purple5ive?

Re: 4 new outfits
Can anyone give me personal thoughts on the 14k xg twinpower specifically vs the similar model stella?
The specifications are quite similar to each other, minus a few bairings in the twin... so obviously not going to be as smooth, but it is marginally lighter, with larger line capacity and the same amount of drag pressure as well as crank power/gear ratio. I haven't delved deeper than that though

Re: 4 new outfits
I'm just about to the point where I'm going to start buying the products now (in drips and drabs so it isnt one big financial hit at once)
Still need to fine tune the list a little...
Heavy Popping:
Marusame Caranx PE6-10 78222 ($429.00 Otto’s, $419.00 ebay)
14000 XG SW Stella ($1055.00 MoTackle)
80lbs braid
Medium casting:
Marusame Caranx 80-II PE2-5 Stick Bait 80 ($429.00 Otto’s, $419.00 ebay)
10000 hg Saragossa (owned)
50-65lbs braid
Medium overhead, bait/trolling/jigging:
Daiwa Demon Blood B56-6/8 ($389.99)
2-speed Talica 12 ($695.00)
65lbs braid
Light bait:
Crucis Elite Hoodlum 702MH 10-15KG 7’0” ($190.00 Otto’s)
5000-6000 Saragosa
20-30lbs braid
And I'll probably just take another all-round setup with a PE2-4 7ft rod with a 10000 reel as well.

Re: 4 new outfits
Buy a second hand Stella for under 1k. Failing that, just get a twinny around 800 new. The Stellas have a different drag support system, different body and a few other things. But they're not $600 better differences though

Medium overhead, bait/trolling/jigging:
Daiwa Demon Blood B56-6/8 ($389.99)
2-speed Talica 12 ($695.00)
65lbs braid
How would this outfit go for Vic/NSW shelf fishing? A fair bit undersized for marlin, swords and barrels?
the lack of line capacity for swords would struggle too?

Carl uses the Talica's and rates them extremely well. I haven't used that model demonblood but they have a good rep.Kimtown wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 3:35 pmMedium overhead, bait/trolling/jigging:

And it’d be an okay all rounder for them game species as well as northern species like wahoo, sails, doggys and Spaniards?
