Clifton Springs Bag Out Calamari - 26 May 2024

Post by Andrews » Mon May 27, 2024 5:20 pm

Hey all,

Sharing a quick fishing report following yesterday's success bagging out on calamari within the hour.

The weather was perfect, with glass out conditions, a light NW breeze, run-in tide and full sun.

There was some surface weed around the 2-3m mark, so punched out to 3-4m casting this slow sinking (cut and re-shaped the lead) Yamashita in a natural pattern / silver foil, which sinks 7s/m.

Casting the heavy eel grass beds in the darker water proved successful with most squid striking on the sink / rest close to the bottom.
Bagged out within the hour re-adjusting the drift every 15 or so minutes, two boats beside me also pulled them in thick.

Squid averged 25-30cm, biggest went 32cm.

Plenty of boats out, many fishing the mussel farm for kgw before moving towards corio bay.
