I have before and it goes OK, problem is during the dry summer here it is difficult to get worms and I won't buy them. Shrimp are readily available. When the worms do appear it is usually cold here and there are no shrimp!

I haven't caught a trout in these channels since I was a teen (I am 50 now)! No doubt though there will be some in there...somewhere! Just something that you may get as by-catch as opposed to targeting them.

Can't beat shrimp fed cod!

Is there still a lot of silver perch in the channels up there?
I haven't caught any in the channels at all yet, cheers davo
I have never got a silver out of the channels in my life! Do you get them above Goulburn Weir Dave? If not, this may be the reason they have not filtered into the channels as I doubt if they would come up into the channels via the Nine Mile Creek.

It's a dog's life!
I may be thinking of the wrong channel system??? We caught a lot of silvers in the waranga channel? I think that's each at it was called. Mainly fish and yabby the channels north of the Murray now @Moulamine.(pretty sure that not how to spell it lol)

Yeah there's plenty in the river, cheers davo

The channel systems I fish originate from Goulburn Weir near Nagambie. This channel I have been fishing terminates into a creek near Invergordon. This channel is situated on the eastern side of the Goulburn River. There are also channels on the other side of the river that flow into Waranga Basin. Then there are channels that flow out of the basin. The largest outlet from the basin is the Waranga Western Channel. It delivers irrigation water to Boort.

So how do the channels around Moulmein fish?

The end is near! Had a quick go last night with lures...and with no luck. A 'rain event' last weekend has sort of slowed down the channels here!

Official turn off date is the 15th of May. Will still fish the channels as long as they don't drain completely which they shouldn't.
cheers

Missus and kids have been leaving me for dead in the channels. Time to get a new Hobbie.

Had a go last night for about an hour with worms. No luck but was surprised to see a small amount of water tipping over the flume gates! Will be revisiting it sooner rather than later! Armed with spinnerbaits and other various cod lures!
cheers

This thread is hardcore.

I'm not planning to whet a line again until it warms up a bit - usually around Grand Final time (end of September).

Also, I'm just going to say it...I kind of miss the cats.

Why don't you keep fishing through the winter? If you believe the fish slow down or stop biting...they still have to eat. Check out this thread from 2 weeks ago.

viewtopic.php?f=149&t=16002

It was a very cold Saturday...one yella, one small cod and several carp between us. The channel I was fishing actually flows into the Nine Mile Creek so one can say that the waters will be similar. Scott's redfin were from May. Talking to him things have slowed down a bit but if you put the hours in the rewards will be there. And from my experience with redfin, all them years ago when I used to catch them, the numbers caught during winter diminish but the quality increases exponentially!

I showed Sparkles your post...he said the following: FFS harden up and grow a set, don't you fkn humans realise the fkn fish still eat when it is fkn cold...fkn, fkn, fkn! Besides, I haven't had fkn raw fish to eat for a fkn month! So FFS, go and get me some princess!

cheers
