Good day with 21 trout caught & released.

Post by meppstas » Tue Apr 30, 2019 11:50 pm

Had a great day in a small tannin river yesterday using the Mepps Aglia Mouche Noire inline copper blade spinner. Conditions were quite cool early on but became better as the day went on. Water level was low but still good enough to be able to pick up a few trout. Well, it turned out to be a top day as I managed to catch and release 21 nice wild brown trout from 26 hook ups..It was quite the opposite to the trip here a week ago when I only landed four browns from 22 hook ups..

More trout taken here..
Okuma Helios SX20 did it's usual great job as did the Okuma ULS 6' trout rod, Platypus Super 100 4 lb mono held up well too. Good thing was, I didn't have to change lures at all, the trout were quite content with the copper Aglia Mouche Noire. Yesterdays catch has taken my seasons tally to 556 which is better than expected early on in the season.. Rest day today because it's blowing like hell, poorer weather forecast over the next few days too. With just three days of the season left I may not get back in a river unless it clears up..

You sure know how to leave the best for last Adrian, well done.

21 Browns from 26 is a great bowling average. And 556 trout so far, for the season is awesome. You have made me quite the imaginary Trout Fisherman with all your tutelage. I mean between you and me, our combine trout tally is 556 , , , , yes granted, you may have done a little more of the lifting but I'd like to think I had a hand in wishing the trout onto your spinners.

Great report Adrian, with awesome photos and a spectacular finale.

Cheers, Bill

Great report and photos as always. I miss TAS trout fishing. Hopefully one day I have the opportunity to go there again.

Thanks heaps guys.. it was one well overdue spin session for sure..

smile0784, I hold the record with a season total of 1256 trout.( 1167 brown trout & 89 rainbow trout.) Also caught 2 blackfish, 5 redfin, & 1 Australian grayling that I didn't add to the season tally, even though I could have done so..

That was back in the 2009/10 trout season..

Since moving to Tassie back in March 2000 I have caught a total of 9,870 trout in 1631 trips to the rivers at an average catch rate of 6.05 fish.

Brown trout: 8956.. rainbow trout: 914..

cheers

That's an amazing number and fantastic record keeping skill!
Sounds like a data people get from Australian Bureau of Statistics.

I don't even remember what I had for lunch last Monday.

That's where writing each & every trip in a diary comes in handy... Always good to look back on and see how the fishing fluctuated on each trip I did during a season.. I have all my season stats (& trips) back to March 2000..

As for the Tattslotto numbers, no good at that as I can't win a thing on it.. stick to family "birth dates".. :-D

cheers
