Any prawns about?

Post by Elmer Stratty » Thu Nov 12, 2020 2:22 pm

G’day all,

With the new moon this weekend we’re keen to catch a few prawns. Most years we head to Lake Tyers but last time we didn’t see one.

Has anyone had any success this season at Lake Tyers or Tambo Bay?

Thanks in advance.

E

I think the prawn run usually starts about mid December. Probably still a bit early but every year's a bit different.

Headed out last night for a couple of hours. Got an ok catch until the wind came up making the little suckers impossible to see. Was ‘land’ based with dip net and light. The water temp felt great after a hot day at work 😀

Nice!

I think Tyers was manually stocked a year ago or so as the entrance hadn’t opened for donkeys

We used to go to Lake Tyers but the last couple of years have been really quiet for prawns. There was some chatter recently on FB indicating the stocked prawns have been eaten by the fish, hence some good sized fish being caught there. I’ll have a crack there in the new year just in case :P

Nope because the extra light makes them flighty as buggery and they are soft-shelled every month they shed their shell so they can grow just like crayfish but they do it slower

Only got half a kilo, tasty, but not much size. We may have ended up with more if the wind didn’t come up making visibility almost zero.
