http://www.exploroz.com/OntheRoad/Fishi ... shing.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; should help you out I think. I'll also try and find a few pics I have, that you can read, pretty easily.

Re: How to spot gutters?
Although this technique is not highly recommended, as it should only be used by strong swimmers. :a_goodjob:
Don a pair of bathers and wade directly out into the surf, noticing when it gets deeper and then shallower, usually you will still have both feet on the sand. Waves break on the sandbar *shallow* water, then there is usually a gutter or channel that the water flows along parallel to the beach until it meets a weak spot in the sandbar and it breaks through forming what is known as a rip.
Beaches such as Manly and Bondi have what is known as flash rips, usually the sand bar that was previously at that spot disappears very quickly as it is swept away by the water current.

Colour bond? :haha2:Rogue_Hunter wrote:+1CarlG wrote:Look for where the waves drop out is tthe simplest explanation I can give. You'll see areas where the waves come over a drop and seem to die away, only to rise up again. The patch inbetween is a gutter parallel to the beach. Sometimes you will see waves forming up and rolling up the beach, and there will be big breaks between them, these are gutters at 90degrees to the beach..
If its one person whom you want advice on gutters, its Carl.
I personally dont have any issues finding gutters .. pretty easy. Iv labelled the below picture with X's of where the gutters are.
To fish or not to fish...NOT TO FISH ??Yea...like that's even an option !

Re: How to spot gutters?
Thanks for the advice guys.
I went down to Flynn's beach and was walking the whole stretch trying to find the 'gutter'. Couldn't find it so i just kept casting lures out. Didn't catch anything but saw a few salmon jumping out of the water.
