Headed down on a balmy evening to Rowville Lakes to try some surface lures and see if I could maybe get a feed of reddies.
Had a couple of splishes around my lures once the temperature started to drop and mosquitoes began to attack, but no hook-ups.
Then, one particularly persistent fish came at my Halco Nightwalker (I believe?) again and again, so I worked it in at a ridiculously low speed and twitched it around a bit and BAM! One feisty little silver perch on the board.
I was absolutely delighted to see such a healthy native fish in the Lakes; having checked the VFA stocking database I noticed that they also stocked roughly equal amounts of yellowbelly along with the silver perch, which gives me hope that in the future, Rowville Lakes will see some golden footballs swimming around, as well as the beautiful silver perch.
Nothing better than seeing our natives mooching around in urban waterways. Certainly a memorable catch!
