Re: Kayak trout fishing
Just troll the usual trout lures. tassies and minnows, Pedal kayaks are easier to troll from, but cost more coin. Dress well and learn to remount, not as easy as you may think, as eildon water can be damn cold in winter and you dont want to spend any time swimming. Second Cheaters advice about kayak...

Re: First Gummy
Congrats mate! Hard to believe someone who fishes as often as you do has never targeted/caught a gummy before. You have the right area correct but most times I fish even shallower, right up on the mud flats for gummies. 1 - 1.5m. Whole banana prawns are a great bait too for the upper reaches of WP ...

Re: Kayak.....really
I will be the devils advocate here, going by the look of the "kayaks" they are actually ocean racing surf ski's. That is they would have been very experienced to even paddle them, and they are designed for these conditions. Not saying they didn't bite off more than they could handle....but they woul...

Re: Kayak.....really
support craft would only be for organised races. Experienced elite paddlers would think nothing of going out in 2m waves and 40+knot sustained conditions. Much the same as surfers deliberately go out in big waves. As you say could be a craft malfunction as one of them looks snapped in half. Bottom l...

Re: Kayak.....really
capsizing as such is not really an issue in these, its akin to falling off a surf board, they expect to and they just climb back on again

Re: Re-entry onto a Kayak - Options?
When side mounting in windy conditions, best if you have the yak down wind, so it is drifting away from you. Makes getting legs to surface easier. On the other side it wants to drift over your legs. Imaging it being a float/kick board used for teaching people to swim

Re: Safety - EPIRB/PLB, flares, essential?
Just a reminder with PLBs then when they say must be above water, antenna upright and the gps sender at the front open to the air they mean it. In a panic situation when you are cold and weather is rough, it is easy to overlook this and thinking help is on the way, and they just cant get a proper lo...

Re: BOAT SEIZED FOR ILLEGAL CALAMARI CATCHES
I reckon fisheries would need tip offs of repeat offenders to spend their day filming someone for the entire trip. Even then its hard to see exactly what someone on another boat is actually landing. Still surprising in the original post how they managed such a detailed tally. At the end of the day i...
