The day i got Jumped....
So my mate Born2fish has been harassing me to take my boat down to Hopkins river for quite a while now. and everytime something comes up and we have to cancel.
eventually with an upcoming bream fishing comp coming up on the river and the fact we got a window of opportunity to fish it we took a last minute decision and headed down there to have a quick fish.
the day started out promising with Phil getting a few hits straight after launching, he couldnt convert them however.
about 10 min later moving to a different spot i was waiting for my line to settle down when i noticed that very familiar tick in the line, i strike and the luvias starts to singgggggggg.. i called it for a baby mulloway first when i seen the flashes, but i was wrong. a beautifull black bream almost 41cm slides into the net..
some happy snaps later we send him back home..
after this we were plauged by micro salmon hammer almost any lure we threw in there, they were so thick that it started to get annoying..
we move from spot to spot and enjoyed the beautiful scenery only disturbed by lures getting smacked by salmon.. this continued for a while and eventually the sun started to say goodbye, we seen a few boats racing upriver to no doubt catch the start of the Perch bite. we decide to fish a well open area as a last port of call, i knew the system held some nice perch, bream and also mulloway..
we decided to fish for whatever we can as it was almost home time. i tied on a bream hardbody and phil had a rapalla slash bait on,
we were both enjoying the peace and quiet working our lures away when i just came up tight and instantly all hell broke loose..
the luvias was screeeaamming, i instantly called it for a jewie and yelled out chaseeee chasseeee , phil didnt need to be told twice, he jumped on the controls and started chasing the fish, first run, second run, third run its not stopping 4th run still going harddd.
fish heads towards deeper water and we follow it gently coaxing it to the boat all the while hoping the 6lb leader will hold and the flimsy hooks on the small hardbody doesnt break/bend. i gently brought it near the boat and everytime it seen phils ugly face it took off, we had about 5 attempts to net the fish, heart in mouth situations as everytime we both though we would loose the fish..
eventually we land the fish, and a beautiful specimen at 77cm its my personal best and also jewie No 20 which i have been waiting for a few years now....
high fives and fist pumps, phil was even more excited than i was.. a nearby kayaker was shaking his head watching the whole thing unfold right in front of him..
we ended the day with that cause we were pretty exhausted and it was a lot of fun chasing the fish around trying to land him.
the hopkins is certainly a beautifull system to fish, i will be back there soon..
cheers

Re: The day i got Jumped....
cheers guys,
was definitely stoked with that fish ive been waiting a good few years for this fish (not for the lack of trying, just dont have the time to actively chase them these days), so this was a monkey off my back for sure cause ive been stuck on 19 schoolies for a very long time..
i tried to find my running mulloway post from about 3 years ago, but the search function doesnt go past 1 year , so decided to start a new post
Now i just need a Kingfish this year to top it all off.
