Lake Tyers
Lake Tyers is almost full to the brim and a breakout is imminent.
The last time the lake broke out was in 2016.
The locals have been hoping for a bit of rain this week, even a smallish amount would most likely push the level up another few centimetres and be enough for a breakout to happen.
Even though the rain hasn't eventuated this week the tides for the next few days will be some of the highest tides of the year. If we get a good onshore blow coinciding with a high tide this too may be enough to cause a breach in the sand bar.

Re: Lake Tyers
I hope we get to see it open soon.
Those big tailor in there will more than likely leave, but let's hope it's replaced with better fish.
Someone need to do a bit of nightshift work there asap I think..

Re: Lake Tyers
While it would be cool to see it's probably better for the ecosystem if it stays closed. The bream would definitely love it if it doesn't open up.

Re: Lake Tyers
When one door closes, another will open.
Some fish might be gone but will being other species in.
High tide at port melb yesterday was still very high, probably still be very high today and next couple days.

Re: Lake Tyers
About god damn time. I miss prawning in there (and actually catching fish)
Someone go down the beach on their yzf 450 and start doing a few doughies. That’ll get it flowing.

Re: Lake Tyers
I see it the other way around. Surely it opening would bring in more food and in turn more fish... Crustaceans, bait fish etc
Bream will adapt as they always do. The flathead will thrive with a bit of a salt water flush out. The tailor that smash absolutely everything in there will escape, and salmon, pinkies, trevally etc will work their way in. This is just my opinion though. Would love to hear a marine biologists thoughts on it, like Broomstick

Re: Lake Tyers
The last time it opened up, the mullet were flapping about on the beach having a jolly good ol' time

Re: Lake Tyers
Since I can't go fishing I've been watching the water level rise in Lake Tyers thanks to the Caravan Park webcam. From my vantage point a few hundred k's away it looks like another break out could be close.
To any of you watching from any closer, what do you think?

There's a good chance of a break out on tonight's high tide.
