Altona could be good, I've seen them caught there although it was a fair while back. Burley would be a big help too.

Re: Family friendly pier fishing
Hi all,
Thanks for your advice. I ended up using a 1/0 hook with a size 1 free sinker all the way to the hook. I think it was too light as it was hard to know when I hit the bottom. The result was 1 legal sized pinkie (30 seconds after arrival) on pilchard plus a little flathead and a little pinkie which each of the kids realled in. The little ones were caught on squid which seemed to be getting most of the bites. Others at the peir caught pinkies and flathead.
Thanks again, I'm sure I'll be back now that I'm armed with a little more knowledge.

Is burley absolutely NEEDED for catching garfish? If so, is there an effective, yet simple recipe for it?

It’s not absolutely necessary mate I have caught heaps before without but to keep them around it’s a good idea! I simply use bread crumbs mixed with water :thumbsup:fishing_minnow wrote:Is burley absolutely NEEDED for catching garfish? If so, is there an effective, yet simple recipe for it?

Yep, I would love to. They seem fun to catch. I'v never really used floats before. I am unsure. Is the current setup I am using good enough? I think I have 10lb braid on the stradic, with the Tcurve.
